Quercus Communities

Quercus Communities are a new CIC that are offering an all inclusive care farm service based within a fully working farm.

Care farming is the provision of care combined with meaningful work, it can also be called ecotherapy. It is carried out on farms, woodlands and in market gardens with those who are often most vulnerable and excluded by society. It is an innovation in health and social care that provides an excellent opportunity for participants to reconnect with themselves, nature, each other and worthwhile work. Many participants on care farms experience improvements to their physical, mental and spiritual health and well-being. Participants connect with a healthy daily structure and meaningful work in a natural environment gaining social, educational and training benefits.

The benefits for participants are huge and include:

- Increased confidence, social interaction and group skills
- Improved physical and mental well being
- Development of routine, self reliance and a sense of achievement
- Learning skills in organic husbandry growing vegetables, herbs and cut flowers

Radford Care Group is a purpose built centre and registered charity that offers daytime activities for older people in Nottingham, with extended facilities for the more frail elderly, to support older people and help them to remain independent and in their own homes. Transport is available for those in the NG7/NG8 area.

We are open 5 days per week and organise activities such as arts and crafts, movement to music, quizzes, outings and getting together with others from the local area. We also offer services such as refreshments, a hot lunch, our own on-site hair salon, a small shop, regular visits from a local chiropodist, an aromatherapy massage service 3 days per week, bathing facilities and internet training.

The day care we provide is for those who are more frail and may have dementia, Alzheimer's or need help through a physical disability. This service is open 4 days per week, Tuesday to Friday, and offers all the services listed above and is also a valuable source of respite to carers. We accept referrals through adult services (formally social services), or privately. This service is run by professional carers.

Gentle Exercise Classes in the Sutton Area

Routines set to good music, different sessions to suit all abilities - some specifically designed for the 'very mature' with seated exercises for the less active.  All classes with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere with the emphasis on enjoyment.

Simple and gentle movements effective in moving the joints, improving co-ordination and muscle tone with no strain.

Keep Fit was first brought to this country from Sweden in the mid 1930's to encourage women to exercise as an aid to build morale among a neglected section of society.  Music was later added to give variety and enjoyment.  The Keep Fit Association was formed out of this idea using Professor Laban's Analysis of Movement as a basis for training it's teachers.

My name is Chris, having trained with the Keep Fit Association, gaining my Certificate in 1982 with ongoing training through the 29 years.  I am also on the Register of Exercise Professionals which has spread into Europe.  The KFA's aim is "Fitness through Exercise, Movement & Dance" and is a member of the Exercise, Movement & Dance Partnership partly sponsored by the Sports Council.  Vice Chair of the KFA is Beverley Callard (Liz McDonald of Coronation Street), supported by Rosemary Conley and Dr Miriam Stoppard.

Phone me on 01623 460060 for further information on this and any of the 5 classes to suit all abilities in the Sutton area.  There's a class to suit all abilities.

  • Tuesday - Grosvenor Rooms, Grosvenor Avenue, 9.30am-11am - £3.50

County Enterprise Foods Meals at Home

We have been delivering a meals service for 40 years and have an excellent knowledge of the area We work very closely with many voluntary and local groups to give the best overall service to people

The meals we produce are made to suit the needs of the elderly or vulnerable adults, but anyone is able to access the service, there is not any eligibility criteria.  We produce a range of over 60 meals to give people choice but also to meet many dietary requirements.  These include diabetic, vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, lactose free, soft foods, pureed meals and low fat meals.  We are able to discuss with individuals further individual requirements. We keep a stock of ethnic and cultural meals which we buy in for their authenticity. All our meals comply with the National Association of Care Catering nutritional guidelines

In addition to the main meal we also deliver a breakfast and a variety of tea time snack packs.  This enables a customer to receive 3 meals a day 7 days a week.  The service is flexible and County Enterprise Foods can deliver meals one day a week or seven days a week. The service can be used on a regular basis or as a one off.

The method of delivery is either hot or frozen. In providing both hot and frozen deliveries the customer is able to have the service which best suits their individual needs and lifestyle, promoting independence.

The hot service is available 5 days a week and 7 days a week to the most vulnerable.  The meal will be delivered between 11.15a.m. and 2.00 p.m. Whichever time the first meal to the customer is delivered this will be the time of subsequent deliveries. The menu gives a choice of four meals a day and can also include a breakfast and tea pack. This service is invaluable for anyone who is unable to reheat their own meal.  This could be a physical reason or because of dementia.  With this service the customer has a daily visit by the driver, who is often the only person they may.

All the drivers are CRB checked and have training in Equalities and Diversity, some have dementia training and are Dignity Champions.

In addition to delivering the meal the driver also carries out safe and well checks. If a driver is unable to deliver the meal, or has concerns about the customer, the meals are uneaten or the customer is in distress they will phone the office who will contact the next of kin or relevant person/authority.  The driver will also perform small tasks to assist the customer i.e. cutting up the meal, plating the meal, fetching condiments, helping the customer to the table, pouring a cold drink and bringing the mail in.

The frozen service is delivered Monday to Friday. Delivery times are between 9.00a.m. and 3.00p.m.  The customer selects from the brochure the meals of their choice and delivery is arranged. This service suits the more active customer who does not want to wait in everyday for the driver, the person who may go out to a club or visiting on certain days.  It is also the service for people who may not choose to eat their main meal at lunchtime but prefer to eat in the evening, or may have a carer come in to prepare the meal.  All the meals may be reheated in a microwave, steamer of conventional oven it enables the carer to reheat a nutritionally well balanced meal and have time to spend with the customer.

The Benefits

Good nutrition and hydration form part of the package to good health.  By eating well the risks of dementia, trips and falls, heart disease and strokes are reduced.  By preventing or delaying illness, in turn, prevents and reduces health care costs and hospital admissions.

On discharge from hospital our service providing a nutritious hot meal and a daily visit will help the risk of re admission. We have also introduced a ‘Home from Hospital Hamper’ delivery which enable the customer to order basic shopping items from a list and upon delivery of the first hot meal a hamper will be delivered containing commodities to enable them to have drinks and snacks in addition to our meals to get over the first few days until other services can be put into place.

By having a meal delivered the customer also has the interaction with a member of the public on a daily basis. Our service also enables family members and carers some peace of mind. With our drivers delivering a meal daily there is that regular check.  We will not leave a meal without seeing the customer, if there is any cause for concern we will raise an alarm or phone the contact provided.  This is invaluable for family and friends who do not live nearby.

We work very closely with other professionals and we are part of framework which links into other services
