Quercus Communities

Quercus Communities are a new CIC that are offering an all inclusive care farm service based within a fully working farm.

Care farming is the provision of care combined with meaningful work, it can also be called ecotherapy. It is carried out on farms, woodlands and in market gardens with those who are often most vulnerable and excluded by society. It is an innovation in health and social care that provides an excellent opportunity for participants to reconnect with themselves, nature, each other and worthwhile work. Many participants on care farms experience improvements to their physical, mental and spiritual health and well-being. Participants connect with a healthy daily structure and meaningful work in a natural environment gaining social, educational and training benefits.

The benefits for participants are huge and include:

- Increased confidence, social interaction and group skills
- Improved physical and mental well being
- Development of routine, self reliance and a sense of achievement
- Learning skills in organic husbandry growing vegetables, herbs and cut flowers

Friends of Groups

If you prefer your exercise to have more of a purpose why not consider joining a 'Friends of Group'?  The Council is working in a number of areas to create these groups; their aim is to give people some influence over how their local open space is developed and to encourage practical help in maintaining the parks, green spaces and nature reserves.  Like gardening at home, practical work in a park or green space is good exercise but doing it in a group means you also get the chance to meet new people as well.  For more details about Friends of Groups please contact 0115 901 3621.

Ace of Spades

Ace of Spades is a gardening/care partnership between Dave Bevan and Sarah Osborne.  We have years of both gardening and care-work experience between us and we have combined our passions for both to develop Ace of Spades Gardens.

Sarah has worked as a landscape gardener for many years and has a background in caring for children, young people and elderly people with special needs.

Dave has worked in the care sector for many years and has a wealth of experience running outdoor projects which encourage inclusion, as well as many years working with gardens, landscaping and on farms.

We have worked together on many different organic farms across America, leading teams of workers and learning different methods of farming, ground work, building and sustainability along the way.

We use sustainable materials wherever we can and care for our environment by using organic methods or ecologically sound products where possible.

If you are:

  • A person with a love of gardening, but can no longer look after your own garden because of health problems
  • A person with learning or physical disabilities or mental health support needs who would like individually tailored support with the maintenance of your garden and learn new skills
  • A carer supporting someone who has an interest in gardening and could use some extra respite time.

Then you may be interested in our gardening service with a difference.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions.  We look forward to hearing from you soon.
