National Council for Divorced, Separated and Widowed, Midlands Branch

Previously known as the National Council for Divorced and Separated. Mutual support and social evenings for people going through divorce, separation and the ending of relationships and for widows.  Not a dating club.  Social evenings every day where people can meet others who have been in a similar position and who know and understand how they feel.  An annual membership fee applies and there are weekly subscriptions for social activities.

Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centres

Information and support for people with cancer, including children, in a variety of languages.  Website includes section for teenagers and young adults.  Benefits advice and bereavement support, grants for adults, young people and children with cancer where family is on a low income to help with practial needs.  Hospitals treating children from north Nottinghamshrie with cancer (e.g. Sheffield Children's Hospital) should also be able to provide information.

(Previously called Mansfield and North Nottinghamshire Society for Deaf People).  Provides premises and facilities for deaf people, their families, friends and associates for education, social events and religion.  Regular social evenings, deaf church, women's group, youth club and coffee mornings.

Pakistan Centre, Nottingham

Provides community members with free signposting and information as well as guidance about benefits, employment, welfare rights, immigration, interpretation and translation.  Offers information and support on health and well-being.  Will assist in the completion of forms and provide attestation where required, including visas and passports.  Community restaurant, open to all, Monday-Friday, 12noon-2pm which also does outside catering, including a meals at home service.  Youth services include a youth club (contact the lead youth worker, Javed Chaudhary, for details).  Punjabi, Miripuri and Urdu are spoken.

The Centre has level access, meetings are held on the ground floor and there is a wheelchair-accessible toilet.  There is no induction/hearing loop system.

Samaritans

Available 24 hours a day to provide confidential emotional support for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide.  Support is offered by telephone, Minicom/textphone, text and e-mail.  The local branch at 18 Clarendon Street, Nottingham, NG1 5HQ, is open Monday-Sunday 9am-9.30pm, for face-to-face support.  The local Samaritans helpline is 0115 941 1111.  If the local phone line is busy, calls will automatically be diverted to another Samaritans branch.

18 Clarendon Street has ramped access, services are provided on the ground floor and the toilet is not wheelchair-accessible.  There is no induction/hearing loop system.

Jigsaw Support Scheme - Befriending Scheme

Isolation and loneliness affects many older people in Mansfield and Ashfield. Our befriending service matches volunteers to those in need to provide company and friendship.

The service is open to anyone over 60 years of age living alone with little or no family contact within the Mansfield and Ashfield areas. A volunteer visits weekly for an hour to have a cup of tea and a chat.

Jigsaw Group Befriending are informal pub lunches hosted by a volunteer at various locations around Mansfield and Ashfield.A comfortable and relaxed meeting place to sit and chat, make new friends and enjoy a meal together.

Jigsaw Self Directed Support Scheme - Independence Project

Can offer social activities, help to maintain the home, practical life skills, accompany to appointments, help with budgeting and accessing the community, shopping and cleaning.

Cost £13.20 per hour minimum of 1 hour for level one support and £16 per hour minimum of 1 hour for level 2 support.  Support can be accessed through a direct payment or self funding.
